Being Human. Leicestershire Landmarks – Church Spires and their Builders
Wednesday, November 13 2024, 7:30 – 8:30pm, On-line, FREE.
Organised by Elizabeth Tingle.
Leicestershire was traditionally labelled a county of ‘spires and squires’, for church spires were a landmark feature of the shire. In this interactive online talk, we will look at the history, landscape, architecture and above all stories behind the church spires of Leicestershire. We will discuss why and how they were such important landmarks, from the middle ages to the present day.
This event is part of Being Human Festival, the UK’s national festival of the humanities, taking place 7–16 November 2024. Led by the School of Advanced Study, University of London, with generous support from Research England, in partnership with the Arts and Humanities Research Council and the British Academy.
